Minedorf has been around for a considerable time. To put it into perspective: when we launched this project, Minecraft (in its release version) was just five years old. This year, Minedorf celebrates its 10th anniversary. Here's a look back at its eventful development.
2016: The Beginnings
On August 3, 2016, DanielDS (now known as dhsddaniel) created the world called "Dorf 16654" after he accidentally destroyed his first creative world. This world was generated as a flatland map, and Dorf 16654 was exactly that: a simple village. For a long time, DanielDS only modestly embellished and modified this village. Over time, he connected surrounding villages—names that might still sound familiar today: MiniDorf, MD-Dorf, Tep-Dorf, and GoldenSky Village. These villages formed the "Village Circle." A notable structure from this era that remains significant today is the "Dorf 16654 CENTER," now known as the Minedorf Mall in the city center.
2017: The Revolution
For most of the year, the structure remained unchanged, with only a change in color scheme in April. Then came November and the plan to transform the Village Circle into a city. All the villages of the circle united to form the city of Minedorf—the name we know today was born.
One of the first measures was to expand the main paths—from 3-meter-wide gravel paths to 7-meter-wide roads made of stone with white wool stripes. This led to the demolition of almost all village houses, especially in the former Dorf 16654. At the end of November, a huge black building emerged out of nowhere, reaching the then-building height limit: the B11. It remained in first place for a full five years. Shortly thereafter, the WorldCityBuilding followed as the second tallest structure. On December 27, the first Minedorf server went online on Aternos, ending the era of Minedorf as a single-player world. One of the first "masterpieces" of the server was the new district NoSkill, which initially wasn't a district at all but an independent city.
2018: The Year of the First Minedorf Server
The year 2018 started with a Minedorf server that was just three days old. NoSkill quickly became one of the largest projects in the area, and the first mayoral election took place. The current mayor, dhsddaniel, lost this election but took over the position after the winner became largely inactive. In 2018, the area around the city was generated for the first time due to an error in the world settings that caused the normal world to generate around the flatland.
2019: New Buildings and Social Media Launch
In 2019, for the first time since the construction of the B11 and the WorldCityBuilding, new skyscrapers appeared in Minedorf. With the LNG Tower 1 and LNG Tower 2, new standards were set in the city. Additionally, the first real highway, the A5, was built. The first city outside the flatland world was also born: Dorfen am Himmelsee.
2020: The Great Expansion
The year 2020 brought about a massive expansion of the city. Starting in June, hundreds of skyscrapers were built in the NoSkill district. At its peak, there were five buildings per day. 2020 marked the beginning of Minedorf as Germany's largest Minecraft city. At the end of the year, another era ended for Minedorf: In November, they said goodbye to Aternos and temporarily switched to a self-hosted server.
2021: The Minedorf Server Takes Off
This year, the city made significant progress that still influences it today. Among other things, the NW Tower was completed and occupied. Additionally, the current Minedorf server was launched under Tube-Hosting, making the city accessible to all players around the world at any time for the first time. With new buildings in the district "Tep" (then known as "Noronto"), the city continued to expand.
2022: Minedorf World Tower and Spirit of Optimism
The year 2022 began with the new Minecraft version 1.18—the version that reached new heights, literally. Thus, the era of the B11 as the tallest building in the city was over, or so it was thought. The Titan Tower was supposed to replace it and was scheduled to be completed by May. But in practice, things looked different: The construction of the Titan Tower was halted shortly after it began to change its appearance. Months later, construction resumed as the Minedorf World Tower. It wasn't until November that the final height of 312 meters was reached, but it was significant: At this height, the Minedorf World Tower remains the tallest building among all major Minecraft cities to this day.
2023 to Present: Perfection and Realism
By this point, the form of the city was virtually established. But one last expansion was missing: With the Nontario district, the size of the city doubled, allowing us to confidently call ourselves Germany's largest Minecraft city. Then the focus shifted to the city's atmosphere: The infrastructure was massively upgraded. There were more and more railway lines, and another project was undertaken: the Minedorf Resource Pack. With this resource pack, the city became partially independent of Minecraft's limitations. There are now special trains and cars as well as new sounds. The future of the Minedorf project is in good hands.
